The Pro-Active Approach for OHS Representatives
1-Day Course
OHS Representatives play a critical role in the workplace, as their co-workers elect them to represent their interests in all health and safety matters. Communicating effectively with other employees and management is an essential part of the OHS Representatives role. By undertaking this course, OHS Representatives will develop an in-depth understanding of the health and safety issues in their work area and will be better placed to work with all parties to develop appropriate solutions to resolve such issues.
On successful completion of this program, participants will:
- develop an active approach in promoting their role as an OHS Representative throughout their organisation or company;
- ensure consistency in OHS Representatives' reporting to their committees and/or work groups;
- discuss how to work through unresolved issues;
- discuss and review checklists on how to conduct an effective OHS Committee meeting;
- discuss available resources;
- discuss and implement a framework for a positive safety culture;
- understand the function of an OHS Committee and the roles and responsibilities of committee members and management; and
- develop a professional development training program for OHS Representatives, which will assist management in providing a safe work environment for all staff, clients, contractors and visitors.
To ensure that participants can achieve these learning outcomes, we will:
- assess each participant's knowledge of the learning outcomes prior to completion of the course, in order to achieve 100% success;
- provide a work-based assessment activity task which must be successfully completed to receive Certificate of Attendance;
- provide each participant's supervisor with a checklist to use as part of a performance review and which can be used as evidence for the employer's compliance with NSW OHS legislation; and
- provide all participants with an OHS Representatives Booklet Guide.
