Training in Working Safely in Private Dwellings
and 'External' Locations
1-Day Course
This interactive workshop will allow participants to discuss and understand the balance between the standards outlined in the Disability Services Act and the obligations outlined in the OHS Act. Participants will explore what is reasonable practice and weigh up risks in providing a service directly or indirectly in non-vocational and community settings. A range of resource tools will be customised to suit your organisation, incorporating such subjects as early intervention, strengthening your safety culture, and embracing OHS as a shared responsibility in the workplace. By tailoring this workshop to suit your organisation's needs, we will ensure your compliance with OHS legislation in order to improve your injury prevention strategies.
On successful completion of this program, participants will:
- possess an understanding of the delicate balance between the standards within the Disability Services Act and the obligations of OHS legislation;
- discuss the OHS legislation in reference to non-vocational and community settings;
- review risk management principles in relation to this workshop;
- discuss the arrangements of your company or organisation with regard to core values in order to identify further OHS risk control measures;
- develop effective OHS strategies to address all foreseeable risks, including significant challenging behaviours and manual handling issues when working in non-vocational and community settings;
- customise resource tools, including guidelines, checklists, and evaluation templates; and
- develop an understanding of ideal safety management practices within non-vocational and community settings.
To ensure that participants can achieve these learning outcomes, we will:
- assess each participant's knowledge of the learning outcomes prior to completion of the course, in order to achieve 100% success;
- provide a work-based assessment activity task which must be successfully completed to receive Certificate of Attendance; and
- provide each participant's supervisor with a checklist to use as part of a performance review and which can be used as evidence for the employer's compliance with NSW OHS legislation.
